PSHE

PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) at Cardinal Newman is based on the Gospel values to ‘have life and have it to the full’ (John 10:10). Our PSHE curriculum is designed to be able to support pupils so that they have a better understanding of the wider world to enable them to become confident, tolerant and well-rounded individuals who have the skills and knowledge needed to help them make informed decisions in later life.

At the core of our PSHE curriculum, are three main areas: Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE), Health and Wellbeing and Careers and Enterprise. Through our Catholic ethos, we promote respect and tolerance and place a high focus on developing students’ social, emotional and moral understanding to ensure that they are resilient learners who have high aspirations and are well equipped to make positive contributions to the wider community.

The curriculum content focuses on ways to help students stay healthy, safe, and be prepared for life and work in modern Britain.

Students have opportunities to engage in a wide range of enrichment activities that support and consolidate their understanding of key themes and ideas. These include drop-down days with Humanutopia, enterprise workshops and visits from post-16 institutions and employers. Our students have benefitted both academically and personally from visits by many inspirational speakers and organisations including the Anthony Walker Foundation and the BBC
