The Transfer 2020

Welcome to Cardinal Newman Catholic High School. This section of our website will give you all the information you need about the transition from primary school to secondary school. We have lots of events going on throughout the year which aim to provide a smooth and successful move to High School with plenty of fun and support along the way so you can make a flying start to your time with us.

For our new Year 7s joining us in September 2020, or 2021 the process will be slightly different. Due to the pandemic, it has not been possible to run our Year 5 taster days - but we expect our Open Evenings to go ahead in September. We are also unable to confirm at the moment when the current Year 6 will be able to visit us for their transition days.

Instead of both of these events we have put together information booklets, and a virtual tour of our school which you can find on our 'New at Newman' page. We will continue to update these pages as the situation evolves, so please keep checking back for our latest information. Whatever the announcements are, please be reassured that, although it might look different to other years, we will do everything we can to support our children to make a strong start to Year 7.

The Transfer

In a typical year, Year 5 students are invited to Cardinal Newman High School for a day of sample lessons and have the opportunity to become familiar with the school buiding and several members of the teaching staff. Following this, when children are in Year 6, parents and children receive a copy of the school prospectus and an invitation to our Open Evening to which everyone is very welcome. Once you have been allocated your place at our school those pupils who are transferring to Cardinal Newman are invited for a day to meet their new form tutor and classmates and the Year 11 prefects who will be supporting them during their first weeks with us. In addition there is a special parents' evening for parents of Year 6 pupils who are joining us where you can meet your child's tutors and ask any questions you may have.

Parents and prospective students are also welcome to make a mutually convenient appointment to visit the school during a normal working day.
