IT

The aim of the Computer Science department is to equip students with an insight into the world of Computing, IT and Business. The curriculum is divided between Computing and IT strands which support the understanding of key concepts which can be built upon at KS4.

The curriculum focuses on topics which are interesting and relevant to the students’ own experiences wherever possible, providing them with opportunities to develop their skills and, through business-like scenarios, gain a greater awareness of how the subject relates to the world around them. Students are also able to access software applications that are commonly found in the workplace which provide a solid foundation for further study and future employment.

The curriculum is effectively spiralised to ensure that students can build on prior knowledge and have opportunities to strengthen, deepen and apply more advanced skills and techniques successfully.

The department offers a variety of enrichment opportunities which includes visits from industry experts and visits to higher education establishments, along with a range of extra-curricular clubs, including national competitions.
