French

The MFL Department aims to bring foreign languages alive in the classroom, ignite students’ interest in other cultures and enable students of all abilities to communicate effectively with speakers of French and German. We provide students with the knowledge and cultural capital they need to widen their horizons and gain a greater understanding and appreciation of cultural differences.

Our MFL Curriculum is designed to increase students’ confidence and enhance communication skills by continually building on prior knowledge and developing students’ understanding of phonics and grammatical structures together with widening their range of vocabulary. We provide a challenging and positive learning environment which promotes independence, perseverance and resilience amongst our students, giving them equal and exciting opportunities to use their language skills in a variety of contexts.

Along with access to interactive technology and authentic materials, we offer residential visits to France and Germany, allowing students the opportunity to appreciate the culture of historic capitals, learn about many of the world-changing events of the 20th Century and to communicate for practical purposes with native speakers, thus inspiring a purpose for language learning.
