Students are expected to:

be polite, helpful and supportive to staff and other students and respond positively to staff requests

Students must not:

Roles and Responsibilities

The Governing Body will establish in consultation with the Headteacher, staff and parents the policy for the promotion of good behaviour and keep it under review. Governors will support the school in maintaining high standards of behaviour. The Headteacher and Senior Staff will be responsible for the implementation and day-to-day management of the policy and guidelines. Each department establishes its disciplinary procedures within the framework of the school policy.  Staff, including support staff, will be responsible for ensuring that the policy and associated guidelines are followed and will challenge unacceptable behaviour and inform Form Tutors/Heads of Department/Heads of Year/Heads of Key Stage accordingly. Thorough investigations will be conducted and records kept.  Staff also have the responsibility, both in the classroom and around the school, for maintaining the high quality learning environment which encourages good behaviour. The school will always aim to work closely with parents and carers to maintain high standards of behaviour.  The support of parents for any sanction which may be implemented for unacceptable behaviour is crucial.
Students are made fully aware of the school policy, procedures and expectations via the the pastoral system and have a record of behaviour expectations and consequences in their Student Planner.  Students will be regularly consulted on the effectiveness of the school's rules and sanctions.

Conclusion

The above Behaviour Policy should be read in conjunction with the Rewards and Recognition systems, Sanctions and Behaviour Consequences guidelines and the school’s policies on Social Inclusion, Exclusions, Attendance, Bullying and Pastoral Care.  It should also be read in conjunction with the DDA Act 2005 which provides the statutory framework that underpins equality of opportunity for pupils with SEN or disabilities in accessing school education.

Review

The Headteacher, in consultation with Staff and Governors, will monitor and conduct regular reviews of the policy and associated guidelines in order to evaluate and maintain its effectiveness. The outcomes of reviews will be communicated to all involved, as appropriate.

† Loss of or damage to property is fortunately a rare occurrence but parents are advised that school cannot be responsible for items of this nature which are brought onto the school premises.

* Whilst we accept that some students may need to contact parents during the school day, use of mobile phones is not permitted in school.  There are arrangements in place for students to telephone home from the school office in cases of emergency.  Staff will confiscate mobile telephones if they are seen in school.  Students can then collect them at the end of the school day.
